Entering Your Children In School
Telephone the public school system in either the city or the
county in which you plan to live, giving them your new address and your child's present
grade level, and you will be directed to the school your child will attend. To enter
school, your child must be five years old by October 1 of the school year. Grades K-6 are
included in elementary schools, grades 7-9 are in middle schools, and grades 10-12 in high
schools. At enrollment time, you will need to present your child's birth certificate and
previous school records. Also required are our child's immunization papers for small pox,
DPT, measles, German measles, mumps, and infantile paralysis. Please be sure to also read
the additional school sections listed in our Directory. For more information, call:
- Memphis City Schools: (901) 325-5300
- Shelby County Schools: (901) 325-7900
