North Memphis
North Memphis is a quiet residential section that has
benefited from the commercial activity generated by The Pyramid. It includes the Pinch
section of town, one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, dating back to the 1830s.
Neighborhood solidarity is on the rise, thanks in part to public and private initiatives
to build grassroots redevelopment in its residential areas and efforts to encourage
businesses to locate in the area.
Community centers provide recreational fun and there are
several "pocket parks," including Guthrie, Klondike and Bickford. One of the
main draws for the area is its proximity to downtown and the industrial areas along the
Wolf River. There are a number of neighborhood groceries, along with larger supermarkets
and shopping centers. Residents are hopeful that the renewed interest in the area will
create a renaissance for their neighborhood.
