Cordova, Tennessee
Located just north of Germantown, Cordova is quickly becoming
one of the Memphis area's fastest growing neighborhoods. What started out as Countrywood
subdivision has grown into a host of subdivisions, retail centers and office complexes.
Some residents joke that if they close their eyes for a
second they may get lost amid the newly constructed homes and shops. Many of the
neighborhoods have upscale homes on large lots. A few of the developments have special
amenities, such as golf course living or lakefront property. If you take a drive through
the area, you'll probably see some kids enjoying themselves outdoors. And, indeed, Cordova
is very near to Tennessee's largest urban park, Shelby Farms. A herd of bison grazes at
the park, horses are kept for riding, and nature trails are there for walking and biking.
Plough Park has playgrounds, picnic areas and Patriot Lake, where you can sail or
windsurf.
Cordova is home to the second largest Baptist church in the
nation, Bellevue Baptist Church, with 20,000 members. And it's just a few minutes away
from State Technical Institute. Walnut Grove and Germantown Parkway are the major streets,
and I-40, Cordova's northern boundary, makes the area accessible to most of the city.
Subdivisions include Cordova Club, Chapel Creek, Riverwood,
Woodchase, Countrywood and the Gardens of Riveredge.
A Cordova area mall, Wolfchase Galleria, opened
in 1997 near I-40 and Germantown Parkway and immediately became one of the
most popular malls in the area.
