Memphis Parks

The Memphis Park Commission operates some 233 parks, with 12,796 acres of park land. Among the special features are 26 community centers, numerous golf courses, more than 80 public tennis courts, two senior citizen centers, a children's theater, and programs for the handicapped. Some of the largest parks are listed below:

Overton Park contains the Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis College of Art, Overton Park Orchestra Shell, Memphis Zoological Gardens and Aquarium, a golf course, walking trails and athletic fields.

Audubon Park contains the Memphis Botanic Gardens, Leftwich Tennis Center, a golf course, a lake and athletic fields.

Tom Lee Park, overlooking the Mississippi, provides one of the most spectacular views of "Old Man River" and is the site for a number of annual festivals and activities.

Shelby Forest, a state park located just north of downtown, features trails for horseback riding, campsites, and acres of undisturbed forest land.
